Custom LED Neon Signs for Kids Rooms
Custom LED neon signs for kids’ rooms are low-voltage signs designed for nurseries, children’s bedrooms and playrooms.
Echo Neon creates personalised LED signs for children of all ages and has been making custom signs since 2015.
For kids’ rooms, we recommend LED neon flex only. No glass neon.
LED neon stays cool to the touch, contains no glass tubing, and operates at low voltage, typically 12V or 24V. These characteristics make it the appropriate format for rooms where children sleep and play.
The most popular designs include:
- Custom name signs
- Stars and moons
- Dinosaurs
- Unicorns
- Animal designs
- Fun phrases
With a dimmer, the same sign can also provide low-level lighting at night.
This page covers why LED is the only neon format we recommend for kids’ rooms, how to size and mount the sign securely, which designs work for different ages and how a personalised sign can continue to suit the room as your child grows. How to Order Your Kids Room Sign
Ordering a custom kids’ room sign comes down to three steps.
1. Design
First, design your sign.
Use the custom sign builder to enter the child's name, choose a font and colour, and select the size. The builder provides a live preview as you make changes.
Personalised name signs are the most popular option for kids' rooms.
For themed shapes, character designs or more detailed artwork, upload your file or contact our design team.
If you want the sign to double as a night light, add a dimmer when ordering.
2. Production
Second, we produce the sign.
Production typically takes one to three weeks, depending on the design complexity and current order volume.
3. Delivery
Third, the sign ships.
Standard shipping is free on all orders.
Before mounting the sign, plan the power cord route. Check where the nearest power point is and how the cord will run from the sign to the power source without leaving loose cable where a child can reach it.
Kids' room neon signs also make personalised gifts for occasions, including:
- Baby showers
- Birthdays
- Christmas
- New baby celebrations
The custom builder lets you personalise the sign with the child's name, a favourite theme or a special message.
A personalised name sign can stay with the family for years as the child grows.

Why LED Neon Is the Only Format We Recommend for Kids Rooms
Echo Neon manufactures both LED neon flex and traditional hand-bent glass neon.
For kids’ rooms, however, our recommendation is straightforward:
LED only.
This is the one room category where we do not recommend glass neon as an alternative.
LED neon flex operates at low voltage, typically 12V or 24V. It stays cool to the touch even after operating for several hours and contains:
- No glass tubing
- No gas
- No mercury
These are practical construction differences that matter in a room where a child sleeps, plays and may reach towards objects on the wall.
Safe installation is just as important as the sign itself.
For a nursery, mount the sign well above cot rail height so it remains out of reach when the child is standing.
Use secure wall fixings suitable for the wall construction rather than lightweight picture-hanging nails. A sign positioned above a cot or bed needs to remain firmly attached to the wall.
Echo Neon LED signs include pre-drilled holes in the acrylic backboard for secure wall mounting.
Power cord placement also needs to be planned before installation.
Route the cord:
- Behind the cot or other furniture
- Along the skirting board
- Through a suitable cord cover or cable channel
- Away from anywhere the child can reach
A loose or dangling power cord should never be left near a cot, toddler bed or other area accessible to a young child.
The practical safety considerations are therefore not limited to whether the sign itself is suitable.
Secure mounting, correct placement and safe cord routing all matter.
Two Jobs: Fun Room Feature and Night Light
A kids’ room neon sign can serve two purposes.
During the day, it becomes a personalised feature that helps make the bedroom feel like the child’s own space.
That might be:
- Their name glows in a favourite colour
- A dinosaur
- A unicorn
- Stars and moons
- Another design connected to their interests
At night, the same LED sign can work as a low-level night light when used with a dimmer.
For nurseries and babies, the night light function is often the more practical benefit.
At its lowest brightness setting, the sign can provide a soft glow for night-time feeding, settling and comfort without filling the entire room with bright light.
For toddlers and younger children, both purposes matter.
The sign gives them something familiar and personal to enjoy during the day, while the lower brightness setting can provide a comforting glow at bedtime.
For older children, personalisation generally becomes more important than the night light function.
The sign becomes part of their room decor and reflects their interests and personality as they grow.
Colour choice affects both uses.
Warm white creates the softest appearance at low brightness and is particularly suitable for nurseries and night-time use.
Soft pastel colours can also provide a gentle glow.
Bolder colours such as:
- Pink
- Blue
- Green
create more visual impact during the day but can appear brighter at night, even at a low dimmer setting.
If the sign needs to work equally well as room decor and a night light, warm white or a softer pastel is generally the most flexible choice.
For an older child who is more interested in the daytime appearance, a stronger colour can work well.
If you want the sign to perform both roles, add a dimmer when ordering.
Sizing and Placement for Kids Rooms
The right sign size depends on the room, surrounding furniture and the child’s age.
For nurseries, signs positioned above the cot generally work well at 18–30 inches (46–76 cm) wide.
Centre the sign above the cot and mount it well above rail height. It should be clearly visible when entering the room while remaining out of reach when a toddler is standing inside the cot.
Toddler bed signs also typically work at 18–30 inches (46–76 cm).
They can be mounted above the headboard or on the wall beside the bed.
The same cord-routing rules apply: keep the power cord secured and away from anywhere the child can reach, pull or play with it.
For older children’s bedrooms, signs generally work well at 20–36 inches (51–91 cm).
Common placements include:
- Above the bed
- Above a desk
- On a feature wall
Older children may also want a say in where their sign goes, so the final position can be chosen together while still keeping safe mounting and cord placement in mind.
Playroom signs typically work at 20–36 inches (51–91 cm).
Mount them higher on the wall than you might in a bedroom. Children tend to move quickly when playing, and a sign installed at child height is both easier to reach and more likely to be accidentally contacted.
Echo Neon LED signs include pre-drilled holes in the acrylic backboard for wall mounting.
Use secure fixings appropriate for the wall construction.
For rental properties where drilling is not permitted, suitable adhesive mounting strips may work for lightweight LED signs. Test the adhesive on the wall surface and confirm it is appropriate for the sign weight before using it above a cot or bed.
Cord routing should always be planned before mounting.
Run the cord:
- Behind furniture
- Along the skirting board
- Through a cord cover
- Directly towards a nearby power point
The cord should never hang loose where a child can reach, pull or chew it.
Plan the entire cord path before deciding on the final sign position.
Signs by Age
The role of a kids’ room neon sign changes as the child grows.
Design, sizing and how the sign is used in the room should reflect the child’s age.
Nursery and Newborns (0 to 1)
Personalised baby name signs are the most popular option for nurseries.
A child’s name in warm white or a soft pastel can be mounted above the cot, creating a decorative feature during the day and a low-level night light at bedtime.
Warm white and softer colours work particularly well in nurseries because they provide a gentler glow at low dimmer settings without producing harsh light.
Nursery name signs are also a popular gift choice.
Common occasions include:
- Baby showers
- New baby celebrations
- First birthdays
A personalised baby name sign can remain part of the room well beyond the nursery stage.
Toddlers (1 to 3)
The name sign originally chosen for the nursery can continue to work as the child moves into a toddler room.
Simple themed shapes become particularly suitable at this age, including:
- Stars
- Moons
- Hearts
- Animals
As toddlers begin recognising familiar shapes and objects, these designs can add another playful element to the room.
The night light function is still useful at this stage.
Cord management becomes especially important because toddlers may pull on anything they can reach.
Keep the power cord away from the bed and securely routed against the wall or behind furniture.
Young Children (4 to 8)
At this age, the child’s own interests start to play a much bigger role in the room design.
Popular themes include:
- Dinosaurs
- Unicorns
- Space
- Sports
- Animals
- Favourite colours
Name signs remain popular, but themed designs and fun phrases become equally suitable as children develop stronger preferences about their bedroom.
Bolder colours can work well because the daytime appearance of the sign becomes more important.
For younger children within this age group, the night light function can still be practical. For older children, it becomes more optional.
Tweens (9 to 12)
For tweens, personal expression becomes the main focus.
Popular designs include:
- Custom names in script fonts
- Favourite quotes
- Initials
- Designs based on personal interests
At this stage, the sign begins to feel more like older-child or teen room decor than nursery decor.
That is a natural progression.
A personalised name sign originally ordered for a nursery may still suit the room at this age if the font and colour were selected with longer-term use in mind.
As tastes become more individual, the sign can also be updated to reflect the child’s changing style.
Playrooms
Playrooms are shared spaces where the focus is on fun and room identity.
Popular designs include:
- Bright colours
- Fun shapes
- Game-themed designs
- Family-name signs
Because children run, jump and play actively in these spaces, signs should be mounted higher on the wall than they typically would be in a bedroom.
Keeping the sign above easy reach also reduces the chance of accidental contact during play.
The night light function is less important in a playroom.
Here, the neon sign’s main purpose is to give the room personality and create a visual feature that suits the space.
Bedroom Types and Who We Build Signs For
Different bedrooms call for different designs.
The right format depends on the room, who uses it and what the sign needs to do.
Primary Bedrooms
For primary bedrooms, the focus is generally on creating a comfortable space for rest.
Warm white and softer colours are popular choices because they create a more relaxed glow in the evening.
Common designs include:
- Couple’s name signs
- Romantic quotes
- Simple personalised text
LED is recommended for signs positioned above the bed.
Traditional glass neon can be considered for a feature wall away from the sleeping area, where there is sufficient wall space and mounting height.
Teen and Young Adult Bedrooms
Personalisation and self-expression are usually the priorities for teen and young adult bedrooms.
Popular designs include:
- First names in script fonts
- Custom quotes
- Bold colours
- Social media handles
LED is recommended for above-the-bed placement.
Personalised bedroom signs are also commonly purchased as gifts from parents, grandparents and relatives for birthdays, Christmas and other milestones.
Kids’ Rooms
Safety comes first in a child’s bedroom.
LED only. No glass neon in a child’s room.
Popular designs include:
- First names
- Animal shapes
- Stars
- Moons
At the lowest dimmer setting, the sign can provide gentle night-time illumination without filling the room with bright light.
The sign should always be securely mounted above the bed or on an appropriate feature wall.
Nurseries
For nurseries, the recommendation remains LED only.
Glass neon should not be positioned above a cot.
Baby name signs in warm white or softer colours are common choices.
At its lowest setting, a dimmable LED sign can provide a gentle glow for night-time feeding and settling.
The sign should be securely anchored to the wall and positioned well above cot height.
Content Creator and Streaming Setups
For content creators, the bedroom often doubles as a recording or streaming space.
Common sign designs include:
- Gamer tags
- Channel names
- Brand logos
- Custom phrases
The sign is positioned on the wall behind the camera and becomes part of the production setup rather than simply room decor.
LED is recommended because its brightness can be adjusted to work with cameras, monitors and other lighting.
Size the sign according to how it fills the background at the normal camera distance.
University and Student Accommodation
For university accommodation and other student rooms, portability and removable mounting are often priorities.
Lightweight LED signs can be installed using suitable removable adhesive strips where drilling is not permitted.
Compact designs around 18 to 24 inches (46–61 cm) suit smaller walls and shorter-term accommodation.
Popular options include:
- First names
- Custom quotes
- Small decorative signs
USB-powered options can also make placement easier where accessible power points are limited.
Guest Bedrooms and Short-Stay Accommodation
A neon sign can give a guest bedroom a stronger visual focal point and help the room stand out in accommodation listing photos.
Common designs include:
- Property names
- Welcome signs
- Bedroom accent signs
For short-stay accommodation, the sign can serve as both room decor and a recognisable visual feature in property photography.

Build a Sign Your Child Will Love
Custom LED neon signs give kids’ rooms, nurseries and playrooms a feature that feels personal to the child.
Echo Neon creates LED-only signs for children’s rooms because LED is the format we recommend for spaces where kids sleep and play.
It might be a personalised name glowing on the wall during the day and providing a soft night light at bedtime.
It could be a dinosaur that a four-year-old is excited to show visitors.
Or it might be a name sign that begins in the nursery and continues into the child’s bedroom as they grow.
Echo Neon has been creating personalised kids’ room signs since 2015.
Whatever design you choose, secure mounting and safe power cord placement should be planned as carefully as the sign itself.
